Tuesday, June 10
10am – 5pm Grand Rapids Day at the Museum
The official unveiling of our new Wizard of Oz 3000 piece exhibit – free admission to all Grand Rapids residents.
7pm – 11pm “Get Happy” Birthday Party & “Judy” Karaoke & Welcome Social
Sawmill Inn Ballroom decorated as “Land of Oz”
Cash bar & limited appetizer menu available

Wednesday, June 11
9 – 10:30am Welcome Breakfast & Ruby Slipper Detective Update
Update on the 2005 Ruby Slipper theft

2 – 4pm “Welcome Dorothy” to our Emerald City where “There’s no place like home”
Held at the Old Central School House, one block from the original location of Judy’s birth home. Join us for rides on our Horse of a Different Color Carriage, enjoy some of our Oz kid games & activities and relax on the lawn and visit with some of our costumed characters from the movie. Bring your canvas sneakers and we will help you turn them into Ruby Slippers.
We are even hosting a Munchkin Baby Shower – To help our littlest residents – all proceeds go to Baby Steps Boutique, which provides help to families in need. See their website for gifts they need.
*First Clue given out here for Oz Family Scavenger Hunt – grand prize is $1,000 scholarship.*
7pm OZ Mystery Dinner Party
Held at the Sawmill Inn, decorated as the “Land of Oz” – reservations required. $35
Thursday, June 12
Starting at 9am OZ Film Fest
Mann Theater, in Grand Rapids-$15.
Three different Oz films will be shown (not the 1939 one) Currently planning on screening: “The Wiz” starring Michael Jackson, The Muppets Wizard of Oz, starring Kermit & The Chadwick Silent Film “The Wizard of Oz” from 1925
1 – 3pm Wizard of OZ Jeopardy Game
Sawmill Inn - $5
3 – 4pm “Toto Too” Dog Talent Contest
Start training your own Toto and enter our dog talent contest. In Art Room at museum.
Free for members of museum – regular admission for non members - $8
6:30 – 10:30pm Welcome to OZ Banquet & Program
At Sawmill Inn. Hot Air Balloon & Wizard of Oz characters available for commemorative photo & frame. One photo & frame per couple/family included with dinner ticket - $35.
Friday, June 13
10 – 11am Presentation on the making of “The Wizard of Oz"
John Fricke, Judy Garland and Oz Historian & Author, movie, slide show & lecture at Sawmill Inn - $10
11:30–12:30pm “The Impact of Oz” Presentation
John Fricke’s presentation on how the film has impacted popular culture over the Last 75 years – at Sawmill Inn - $10
2:30 – 5:30pm OZ Fair
At Children’s Discovery/Judy Garland Museum
Come and visit the Gale Farm Petting Zoo, play some fair games and enjoy an old fashioned cake walk. Special Oz crafts available in Art Room along with Face Painting. No admission for outside events – inside museum regular admission applies - $8
5:30pm Guinness World Record Attempt
We will attempt to have the “Most dressed up Wizard of Oz Characters” gather on the Evergreen Terrace Lawn, next to museum. $1 donation collected per Oz character for Habitat for Humanity in honor of famous line from the movie “There’s no place like home”. Rain location is the Civic Center. Start working on your costumes – we need you!
9pm (dusk) “OZ Under the Stars”
Join us for this free family event and watch the classic 1939 “The Wizard of Oz” movie on a Jumbo (40 ft) outdoor screen, set up on the Evergreen Terrace lawn, next to museum. Bring your blanket or lawn chairs to get comfy. Yes – we will be spraying for bugs. Rain location is the Civic Center.
Saturday, June 14
10:30am “Red Sneaker Walk”
Show off your newly created “Red Sneakers – comfy Ruby Slippers” and take a walk down our “Yellow Brick Road” – come in costume & win a prize! - free event. Walk starts at the Old Central School House in downtown Grand Rapids, lead by our beloved Scarecrow.
11:30 – 2:30 pm Emerald City Fest
Held at the Old Central School House.
Join us for more Horse of a Different Color Carriage rides, Oz Activities Including our own "Wash and Brush Up Co." Beauty Parlor complete with: Oz glitter tattoos, Oz finger nail painting, hair braiding. Flying Monkey game, Glinda’s Bubble experiments & Wizard of Oz Street Magic! View our Wizard of Oz Cake Decorating Contest Entries & our continued Munchkin Baby Shower, helping our littlest citizens through our local Baby Steps Boutique.

7:00pm Youth Talent Contest
Held at Reif Center, in Grand Rapids
Youth 18 and under have a chance to compete for a $1,000 scholarship grand prize. Judy Garland’s son, Joe Luft, will be one of our Judges! Call the Museum for event entry form. Winners for all Wizard of Oz Festival contests will be announced at this event including our Wizard of Oz Essay Contest for local 5th & 6th graders, Cake Decorating Contest & Scavenger Hunt.
